Critical Thinking: Reflections of a virtual training session

Hello, it’s me from the other side 🤓

Today, I had the privilege of leading a virtual training course on Critical Thinking and Problem Solving for a group of senior leaders in a large international organisation. As I reflect on the experience, I’m very excited to have gained a glimpse into typical challenges these leaders face in their day-to-day 🙌

I’ve always been driven by challenges. When told something isn’t possible, I’m inspired to explore creative solutions. However, as a leader, I’ve come to realise that pressure, bias, and previous experience can sometimes stand in the way of analysing and evaluating an issue objectively.

That’s why I believe critical thinking is a key competence, especially in today’s complex world. With the exponential growth of AI and data, as well as the increasing polarisation we face, a structured approach and the willingness to truly understand the real problem at hand is crucial 👓

During the training course, I was able to keep my own critical thinker in check, following the advice of my trusty post-it notes on the display 😁.And the group was incredibly engaged, eager to learn and explore new ways of tackling complex challenges 😊.

Curiosity and openness in leadership are crucial when seeking solutions. How does your leader measure up? And how do you approach problem-solving? It all begins with self-awareness, recognising our biases and preconceptions, and having the courage to set them aside for achieving greater clarity, innovation and sustainable results ⏩.

As I look back on the experience, I’m reminded of the power of critical thinking and the importance of nurturing this skill in ourselves and those around us. It’s a journey of continuous learning and growth, and one that I certainly aim to practice every day 😇.
